Curating Futures

Curating Futures is an online creative community I was involved with from the Summer of 2021 onwards (and would hope to be again in the future?). Originally set up by Artist/Curator Shannon Skye Robinson (and later joined by Co-curator Lois Emma Harkin).

I was part of an evolving group of 15-20 Artists that took part in two virtual exhibitions, as well as an online publication (https://issuu.com/curatingfutures/docs/pdf_of_publication-compressed ) and a series of images created around a brief for (im)material featured on the Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/curating.futures/?hl=en .

First  virtual exhibition ‘Arcadia’- launched August 2021

This – first – Virtual Exhibition ‘Arcadia- Exploring the human connection to nature’ was put together by Shannon Skye Robinson in Summer 2021, Its quite a large project beautifully designed with lots of virtual rooms and curated to feature a variety of artists under different moods and themes ,which you can view here https://app.cloudpano.com/tours/v6tG72BwS from outside the virtual gallery and go in

The work of mine featured is 2 from the ‘Silent Pool’ works of the mid 2000’s and 3 from the ‘sea portholes’ from 2016-18

If you want to cut straight to my work it is featured in one of the ‘Experiences’ sections https://app.cloudpano.com/tours/v6tG72BwS?sceneId=wOjMWP-tz
and allow the camera to slowly pan to the right for around 5 seconds.

Second virtual exhibition ‘(IM) material’ –Launched January 2022

The second of the projects was Called (IM)material featuring a similar range of Artists who explored how their use of material related to their practice. Once again the entry  is from outside the virtual gallery to get to the different Galleries https://app.cloudpano.com/tours/OfQIAkryu .

“(Im)Material explores tangible and intangible concepts surrounding materials. Throughout the project, we will be developing an understanding of what material is to each of us and how we articulate it and examine it within our creative practice” . Curating Futures – mission statement

My piece ( ‘I can’t breathe ‘ multi panel work from 2020) is featured on the 18th panel as indicated in indicated in the still image marked in red

The Deconstruction of a Face mask

As part of the (Im)Material Project with the Curating Futures Community in 2021-22, I decided to feature one of these light blue pieces of cloth (other colours are/were available) that rather dominated all of our lives around the world during the two year Pandemic period 2020-22.
